About B2
The roots of this blog are lost waaaay back in 2003 when I registered the domain in order to have one of those new-fangled 'web log' things. Originally I put a small text-only site up on there, with a text-only database and chuntered on about nothing. No doubt you can track down some of the more embarrassing posts if you try.
At some point I switched to WordPress on the advice of a guy called Steve. I ran it like that for a while but was never truly happy with all the unnecessary extra functions in the WordPress package, and no matter how often it was patched there always seemed to be another vulnerability right around the corner.
So in the end, with a second major overhall (not counting endless revamps - the result of getting bored) I've gone back to a simplified, custom admin panel. I've stuck with the excellent TinyMCE as my editor of choice, since manually 'doing' HTML is just sadistic, but that's about my ownly luxury.
Some interesting, and not-so-interesting snippets about this site:
- It's only called B2 for now. This will probably change at some point.
- Written in PHP with MySQL back end, output in (hopefully) Strict XHTML.
- Design semi-based on the iNove Wordpress theme.
- Flash is entered into the page by replacing occurrences of the "/_img/image/flash.gif" image tag with a URL from the ALT tag. This was to make it easer to position Flash videos within the editor and seemed like a good idea at the time.
- 90% of articles are chopped from the previous version. This indicates that roughly 10% of anything I say is actually worth listening to.
