Dammit! I wanted to print out a couple of photos so I spent a few moments putting a nice 300dpi JPG together, went to copy it to my compact flash card and… gone! My W: drive is gone! Along with my X:, Y: and Z: drives oddly – all the slots in my USB Card Reader.
Trying to reinstall the driver I got the dreaded “function driver was not specified for this device instance” error – a seemingly incurable Windows 2000 thing that will not respond to any treatment whatsoever. Believe me, I tried countless ‘remedies’ and workaraounds to try and fix the sodding thing, all to no avail. Well forget it – I’m going to reinstall everything instead.
Just… not yet.

It’s that time of year again when I’ve got to do my government paperwork – Company Tax Return, Personal Tax Return, Companies House Return and the yearly Accounts on the horizon. None of it is particularly arduous but having it all arrive at once can be a bit disconcerting. I think I’m going to offload it all onto my accountant next year (bar the Companies House stuff) and let him sort it all out. The problem with that approach is that it costs me money, but at least it’ll be done right.
This happens every year, and every year I take my head in my hands and wonder if it’s worth all the hassle of having my own company. Every year I look at all the paperwork and then realise that – hey – it’s not actually that big a deal. I then proceed to carefully work out (to the penny) all the stuff that needs to be worked out and I send it off in the envelopes provided. Except in the case of Companies House, who don’t provide me with one. Tight gits.
There’s never been a problem with it either. Last year I even got a tax refund of about £125 quid, which was really really nice and came just in time to stop me going overdrawn. This year I think I might have to pay a little bit more, however. I’m not entirely sure. I do know that the company is eventually going to get a bill for 19% of the Dividend I paid myself back in October, but the money is waiting in the bank to cover both that and the accountant’s fee, so all in all things are looking pretty good.
I just wish it wouldn’t all turn up at the same time, that’s all.
