Bloody Cash Machines

08:46.47 - Monday 11th February 2008   (Link to This Entry)

After a hectic day yesterday, M and I wanted something warm to eat but not to actually cook anything, so we set off to get some cash out and raid KFC - yeah I know, cruelty to chckens and all that. We stopped off at a cashpoint to get some money out.

"Unable to process your request." OK, so I won't ask for £250 this time, maybe just £50. It is last thing Sunday so it's quite possible the machine has run out of money.

"Unable to process your request.". OK, just a tenner then. Nope, still no ball.

So we drive to the middle of town and try the two machines there - stuck in the side of a Yorkshire Bank and in a busy location so surely they'll be loaded with more cash and, just maybe, have a few notes left in them.

"Unable to process your request." O-Kaaay. So it's a problem with the Link Network? Or just my bank? We trundle off to KFC anyway, hoping against hope that we can use a cashcard there, but no such luck. There is, however, one of those pay-to-use machines that charges £1.50 for the priviledge of obtaining your own money. Figuring it won't sting as much if I take out £250 in one go, I insert my card (and I am hungry) and... "Bank cannot be contacted."

Why the hell is it that actual bank machines in actual banks won't tell you what the problem is, but the dodgy machine in KFC will, albeit a cryptic little message in Comic Sans? Has the software not been updated since their introduction or something?

Not having any cash, and being unable to obtain any cash, we went home and cooked some sausages instead. Gah.
