Get Email When a Page Changes
11:46.24 - Friday 8th December 2006 (Link to This Entry)
I was working on something quite unrelated the other day and it occurred to me that it would be a whole lot easier to do if I received an email every time the page my work was based on was updated. I know there are other sites out there that email you when a page changes, but I've never likd using anyone else's site if I can write my own in an hour or so, and off I went.
The site is located at: It's (as usual) free to use - just bang your email address into the form along with the address of the page that you want to watch for changes and it'll send you a message once an update is detected.
Pages in the database are scanned every 24 hours. I scan 1/80th of the links every 15 minutes (minimum of five links) so that they're spready pretty evenly throughout the day. (20 hours per day, four times per hour, 80 scans per day), easing the load on the server.
Webmasters are free to use the site so that their own users can keep an eye on their pages as well. Instructions for webmasters can be found here.
The whole thing seems to work, but feel free to email me via the site if you find something that doesn't. You never know, I might even read your email.
