NTL Speed Increase... 3! 10Mb, sir?

The Inquirer is reporting that NTL plans to upgrade users to 10Mb by the end of the year. The article says that you may need to wait a while, and you may need a new modem too.

Those users currently on 3Mb will be the first to be upgraded, with the current 30GB cap moving to 75GB (I cold have sworn it was currently 40GB - will have to investigate this). Typically, NTL will give the 10Mb to new signups before taking care of it's existing customers. Thanks a bunch!

The modem I use is the original NTL offering, the Motorola SB4100. This beastie can easily handle download speeds of up to 38Mbps (and 10Mbps uploads), but is limited to DOCSIS 1.1 - the new service may require DOCSYS 2.0 as standard. Have to wait and see on that one.

Dinner-ninner-ninner-ninner-TAXMAN!

A few says ago I noticed a credit on my surrent account, it was listed as 'SA." and was for £125-odd. I had no idea what it was and wondered if I has been the recipient of one of those banking mistakes that features so prominently in the game of Monopoly.

Handily, I had run the account right down to £13 and only then realised that I still had a cheque for £120 to clear, so I was going to go overdrawn and this mystery credit had in fact saved me from doing so. Huzah for Mystery Benefactors!

Then this morning I received a letter from the Inland Revenue, and it turns out it was a tax rebate - SA apparently standing for 'Self Assessment'. Not bad eh? Tax Man has saved me from going oveerdrawn.
