TomTom Navigator 5 Upgrade / European Maps

13:50.11 - Friday 24th June 2005   (Link to This Entry)

I finally received my TomTom software upgrade from the Netherlands and I am in the process of installing it. I've removed the old app completely and started from scratch - UK maps and all. There's a case of Yet Another Broken Installer with the maps disc, in that it won't install from the CD if your Windows Temp variable has a space in it. What happened to quality control? Copying the contents of the CD to a folder on your harddrive and installing from there seemd to do the trick, however.

The installer freaked very early on as well - it wouldn't do anything ("Unknown device architecture") for ages and then suddenly appeared about an hour after I'd launched it (hey, I was reading SlashDot, ok?) and installed fine. It also has a fondness for starting up minimised for some reason. Tsk.

When I eventually get the damned thing working I'll let you know what it's like compared to TomTom Navigator 3.
