Damn you, Stephen King! Damn you to hell!

I got hooked on the Dark Tower books after I found one - Wizards and Glass - in a "'Bag o' Books" that my mother found once. I actively sought out the rest in the series and sprinted through them, following the adventures of Roland, Jake et al with a dedication I had not felt since buying Lord of the Rings from some bookclub in my wild, impetuous youth. I even managed to snag an advanced copy of the final book (thank fuck he didn't die!) before it hit the shelves.

At one point, the Ka-tet are passing through a city where the beat of drums can be heard every so often, and somewhere along the line one of the party identifies the beat as the drum track from ZZ Top's Velcro Fly.

You need just enough of that sticky stuff
to hold the seams of your fine blue jeans.

Despite the fact that the pile of books under my bed is gathering dust because I finished them so long ago, I recently started humming Velcro Fly during those quieter moments.
