Event Preparation
12:13.14 - Wednesday 20th April 2005 (Link to This Entry)
I have an event in the next few days where I've been roped into taking pictures. There are a few years-gone-by celebrities attending and folks will no doubt want their photos taken with them, but I've also got to wander around the place taking photos of people on the night so they've got something to remember. I have a staff of two - one on the photo-printer, one with me taking money - and there's so much to organise that I'm sure I've forgotten something.
I have the photo printer hooked up the the laptop - it's a Hi-Touch 730 GALA Dye-Sublimation printer that knocks out superb 8x6 (max) prints pretty quickly. The printer actually has built-in memory card slots so that you can print from the handset without using a computer, but I figured it was too slow (You couldn't queue a pic for printing until the current one had finished, and navigating 4 images at a time was baaaad) so I've hooked it up to my laptop and installed the printer driver on there.
The software that comes with the printer itself is an abomination called Photo-Desire or some such. In the end I decided it was just too slow to use, and set up Irfanview instead, setting the print defaults in Windows as well so that I could just hit Ctrl-P and Enter and away it goes. I'll have to give it a test on the night but hopefully it'll all be fine.
I've got paper and ink for 990 prints in packs of 30 in a large box downstairs in the living room, and I have 850 black folders with gold trim in boxes of 50. That should be enough for the night. I need to pick up a background frame to hang my curtain from as a backdrop for the celebrity photos, and I don't even have any raffle tickets yet - where the hell do I get those from?
I suppose I also better find some pics of these celebs as well, since it would be awfully embarrassing if I didn't recognise 'em!
