Long time no see...

Since I don't want this site to start looking like Daniel Thornton's, I figured I had better stop by and update something, so here we go:

Work continues to prove a rather relaxing and fun way of passing the time and getting paid as well. I've put together a Plant Hire company website over a couple of days and built a design for an existing customer just today, so it's actually improved my productivity no end and not just because the boss is in the same room - I'm actually enjoying work all over again.

After squandering a couple of grand (Ah, but you should see it) on the new computer I've been buying even more stuff. First up was a HiTouch Dye-Sublimation photo printer for an upcoming event at which I'll be doing the photos. Coupled with my Finepix S7000, this weird blue beastie knocks out superbly clear prints in 6x4, 7x5 and 8x6 formats. This is my first Dye-Sub experience and I gotta say, I am hugely impressed.

After hearing BootBlock's tale of woe, in which he ordered a UPS but didn't take it out of the box for a week (you can guess what happened!), I decided to get one myself. I opted for a 325VA Belkin Regulator Pro Gold Series and was pleasanty suprised to receive.. two of them. My luck, I guess! I've hooked one up and I'm currently running the PC from it now. It's not huge, but it's enough for me to shut the machine down if I need to. It's stylish and unobtrusive, too. I'll hook the twins up later.

Coincidentally, my scanner stopped working (sigh!) recently as well. Nothing happened when I applied the power, and since the negative scanning didn't work properly anyway, I decided to treat myself to an Epson Perfection 2480 Photo Scanner. This wee beastie is USB 2.0 and very, very fast. 15 seconds to scan an A4 page? Nice! Scanning Negatives is much slower, but the results are still good, even if the method for loading them into the unit is a bit fiddly.
