Hacking? On a Sunday?

Well, kind of. The other day I woke up with the mad idea to create something along the lines of CJB.net which would allow me to effectively create unlimited subdomains without having to muck about with the DNS each time someone wanted a new one. I already had a domain I could experiment on which is due to expire soon anyway, so off we went.
Not wanting to completely trash the webserver, I poked very carefully around the DNS and VirtualHost lists until I was 99% sure of what I needed to do, and sure enough, it worked almost first time. I can now browse to www.something.domain.com and see the exact same site at www.domain.com, and index.php on there can decide which site I entered into the address bar.
So at some point in the future I may create a frame-spoofing sub-domain redirection service along the lines of CJB. Getting ads into there might be a pain since we're talking sub-domains now, and I shall have to speak to TradeDoubler about how that's going to work, if at all, since their service relies on the document.referrer to decide who to pay.
All I need now is a 3-letter domain! Hah!
