Preparing to Reformat

Recently my laptop has reached that stage where there are just too many quirks about it for me to be comfortable with, and being a heavily-loaded machine (as opposed to those owned by mere mail/web/word users) there are many things interactinv with many other things, and the whole shebang runs along a weird knife-edge of functionality.

Over the weekend I discovered that the Bluetooth adaptor wouldn't pick up when I plugged it in. This morning I uninstalled everything and re-installed it and it now works fine, but it illustrates the case in point - things are going wrong. In addition, the laptop would not shut down unless the WiFi card was in, but now it doesn't shut down even when that requirement is met.

So it's time for the scrub.

I think I'll leave it until the weekend, then I'll do a mega backup onto the 18GB drive in the desktop and what my HTTP folder out onto DVD with my email, just to be save. I'll also drop the partitions and simply map a local folder as a networked D drive. That should increase the speed of HD access a little as well as allow me to combine the free space from both drives.

If you don't hear from me after the weekend, you can assume something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. Hopefully it'll all be sorted by Saturday night, however, and I can join in a game of UT2004.

Free Camwhores!
