Memory Upgrade

I received my replacement SODIMM this morning - replacement because the one I rather stupidly sent back the other day hasn't been signed for yet, so the seller has simply sent another out in it's place. Thank you, laptop-memory-store, for outstanding service - you've restored my faith in eBay after the farce that was lordhutton.

SO! How does it perform? Well in normal use, things certainly feel a bit more frisky than before. On first boot, Photoshop loads noticably quicker and the whole of Windows seems to have lost it's trademark lag. No doubt it will expand to fill all available resources, as is it's want, but for now it's great.

Dreamweaver MX doesn't load any quicker, but then there's probably no amount of memory I could employ that would cure that.

Taking the Plunge

I've fired up Access and made a start on the Database Structure for the BSP (Big Software Project) which I hope is gonna earn us loads of cash. I've been laying out tables after actually designing them and linking them up in Photoshop - quite an unecessary step really, as Access lets you do all that kind of thing anyway. I've just realised that the BOOKINGS table (yes, your first clue!) needs a few more bits of information in it and will expand on that later. The table is 412k already, and I haven't even inserted any data into it yet!

I've also created a folder for the project, which means it's now 'official' and things will likely steam ahead until I hit a brick wall somewhere. I've been thinking about how to display the information within the program and I figure a listbox showing the actual record details would be pretty neat. If you want to find an account, you can search for the name associated with it and all possibilities would appear in the listview - simple!

I'm going to go for a 'tabbed' approach as well, as it's fairly easy to follow for even the n00best n00b. Having definite sections across the top of the page will make layout fairly straightforward and adding new sections easier, although I'd like to get the layout as close to finalised as possible.

Real Net(Not)Works

Jaysus! I'm rocketing along with 1GB or memory - I'm able to have Flash, Photoshop, Powerpoint and VB open all at once with no slowdown whatsoever. Life is looking grand!

Then I have reason to install the RealOne player and everything slows to a hideous crawl. WTF? Why do they insist on employing stupid fuXX0ring download managers? Why the stupidly over-complicated graphics? Why the downright frightening ("Periodically check my system to maintain these preferences when RealOne player is not running" - WTF?!?!?) options? Why the fnck does it insist on trying to take over my system?

Stupid pile of shite.

Daniel Thornton was moaning about having to scroll all the way down the page because things were in reverse order. I took pity on him and put the drop-down-order-picker-of-doom in the bar.

Perhaps you'll update your fncking site now, Dan?

I see no Simon Parking. Who the hell's Simon Parking?

We need to somehow get Daniel's domain transferred over to ourselves. And teach him a leason. A really big hard one.
