Gawd... it never rains...

After some (admittedly pretty ropey) detective work I am starting to suspect that the HD in the laptop is dying. Problems regarding suddenly-slowing-to-a-crawl Inspirons are to be found on Google if you can be bothered to look, and I figured now was as good as time as any (2AM - yes) to get the important files the hell offa this HD before the damned thing went up in smoke. Rats... sinking ships... deserting... oh my!

The only other possibility I can think of is that Windows has become irrepairably screwed, but why should this happen after being switched off for a week? That said, it's prolly a far more likely explanation. Hell, Windows has prolly twisted it's innards because it's Thursday before now.

Screw this. I have much work to do this week and I'm not chancing a reformat just yet. I'll probably do nightly backups (what fun!) until the weekend and then scrub the HD when nobody's pestering me for code and suchlike. What a fun week (and weekend!) this is going to be.

I blame BootBlock and his Magic Magnets, the swine.

Damn yooouu!!111one

Typically, the laptop seems to be behaving itself this morning. I can usually spot the current situation by the speed at which the Windows 2000 screen appears during boot, and it's pretty nippy right now, I can tell you. I'll give it a chance but... well.. unless it behaves flawlessly for the rest of the week there's always gonna be that nagging doubt...

Nothing's ever simple...

So I got my Philips HSBX38 this morning and I'm damned if I can get it to work with my Nokia 6310i. The headset flashes as expected and wotnot, but the phone just will not pick it up no matter what.

I've found a few bits on the new indicating that it's actually my phone at fault, and that I need to upgrade the software in it. Looks like I'm gonna have to get on to MobileShop or even T-Mobile and see if I can get them to sort it out.

But first, I have lots of work to do. Great!

It never rains...

NTL's so-called service is up and down like a tart's knickers. One minute I'm on, the next I'm off. As I type, the Receive and Online lights on the CM have gone off again (so I better not try to save this :) and I basically get various combinations of activity lights. The TV in the back room, which received NTL Analogue, has gone off as well, so it's not the Cable Modem. I wonder if it's just me?

Ooh, they're back on! Better save!
