It's Alive... again! Again!

Yes, again! More PHP nonsense was happening here, as I jumped in at the deep end and started bashing about on the server trying to get MySQL to work, creating tables and wotnot. Eventually I discovered it was all down to permissions - bah! Why do books never tell you these things? Why do they always assume you have permissions and wotnot? Anyway, most of yesterday was spent just getting the darned server working.

Early this afternoon I finally got a handle on mysql_query() and managed to create a setup script for my soon-to-dominate-the-world counter thingy which now creates all of the required tables with a few clicks of the ol' mouse. Hurrah! All that remains now is to learn how cookies work, and I'll have all of the required ingredients for the site: Right, better get back to fiddling...

I'm currently basking in the adoration of.. well only me actually, having just upgraded the version of PHP on the server from 4.0.6 to 4.3.2 without actually breaking anything. That's gotta be a first. You Linux regulars may well mock, but for a l4me-a55 n00b W1nbl0wz user like myself that was actually pretty good. Thanks must go out to this page for the HOWTO and to Booty for holding my hand.

No, not literally. Stop that!

Spoke too soon...

Bah, turns out there was a small problem with mysql.so having a different compile... thingy. Sorted it by copying the newer version over the older one in the same extensions folder. GeekPoints++; for me!
