And so it goes...

This weekend I sent out an email to users of the Lotto website informing them about the money-spinning affiliate stuff I'd added. Several accounts caused an email bounce and - as I'm a typical BOFH - I promptly suspended those accounts.
Several of the users have been in touch, all with 'My account isn't working!' or a variation thereof. I kindly explain to them that the site requires them to maintain a working email address, update the account with the new address and re-enable it. Still got half a dozen suspended tho.

Today we were woken by the postie hammering on the door because he couldn't get my copy of Larry Ullman's PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites through the letterbox. It's a nicely formatted manual and I'm basically just meandering through it, picking up the basics of PHP. Why? Well despite the fact I know Kung Fu... I mean ASP, I recently upset Bootblock by writing an on-site counter to replace the off-site one he's currently using from my server. All hits and no counter makes BB pissed, or something.
The idea was to reduce the size of the server logs at my end and create a fix for that cross-site cookie limitation, but it had the side-effect of infuriating BB because he only uses PHP, and the only ASP he has is Perl, not VBScript as the new counter was written in. I was going to look at PHP anyway, as it happens, and so now my first project is going to be to get the new counter working in PHP, just to keep him happy.
