28 Days Later

Finally got round to borrowing this on DVD and watched it last night. The film takes place in London in the present day and follows cycle-courier Jim who wakes up in his locked hospital room in London to find the entire city almost deserted. The story is that Animal Rights activists released chimps from a lab which were infected with 'Rage' - a highly contagious psychotic virus spread through bodily fluids, namely blood.

Jim soon encounters the Infected - the capital indicating they're beyone redemption. They band together in loose groups, hiding in shadows until they come across an uninfected survivor, then the thirst for blood engulfs them and the chase is on.

28 Days Later is a very stylish movie, well shot (with the London scenes all shot at 6AM to get the deserted look) and skillfully directed. It's also incredibly bloodthirsty, and the special effects leave you in no doubt as to the brutality of this new world: Hacked limbs; stabbings and blood-splatters abound - not one for the squeamish.

It's a zombie film in the old style, and it's excellent.

Bloke turned up an hour ago to fit an alarm and stereo into the car, after the troubles we had a week or so ago with some little git ripping out the old one. We're having some TOAD thing fitted and it'll be wired into.. well everything I guess. A side-effect of the alarm-o-thing is that we'll now have remote central locking. Big woo.

Ooooh, Pretty!Someone just dropped off a 15.1in Dell Inspiron 8500 - widescreen laptop goodness! All I have to do is set it up... gnngh.

I suppose I should be annoyed that my Inspiron 8200 has been EOL'd so quickly, but in all honestly I'm not terribly impressed with the new machine. The keys feel good but have a strange bounce to them, the glidepad is rough rather than smooth finish, and of course it comes with XP Home - WIN2K ROXX0RS J00!!!!1

One thing I really do like is the silver/grey finish on the 8500 - it looks sooo much better than my stock black plastic machine, but what's this? Only one battery on the new version? Aieeee! The only extra thing I ordered was a battery to go in place of the floppy drive - after all this machine was supposed to liberate me, and the addition of WiFi has halped in that, but with only one battery, and no option to add more, well! Chained!
