It's Alive... one more time!

Yes folks, the continuing saga of the Scumputer moves on to the next chapter, with the acquisition of a Gigabyte GA-5SMM to replace the b0rked PC-Chips crapboard. This replacement board cost me £15, but it's still cheaper than getting the BIOS reflashed on the old one. Plus it's a Gigabyte - I've never had a single problem with one of these boards.

At the time of writing, the new board is in and fired up and Windows is just detecting all this lovely new hardware. Wish me luck!

I've just this minute convinced it to accept the modem driver for the shitty Lucent WinModem that worked just fine, thank you very much, on the old board. God I hate those things.

The Lotto update seemed to go OK this time. Neither NTL nor my wireless connection could conspire to defeat me. Huzzah.
