F***ing Friday Fun

Dammit, Fridays are not supposed to be like this...

Started off with a 9:30 appointment to find out why a machine wasn't browsing secure sites. I didn't have the faintest idea why, but it was eventually decided to scrub the machine, partition the HD into two parts and tidy up the mess of shortcuts on the desktop.

All went fine, pretty much, until it came to installing a modem driver. With sinking heart I saw that it was an Intel Ambient winmodem thingy. On past experience I was gonna have to leave this until Tuesday morning when I'd hopefully find the driver at their office, but as luck would have it (after trying just six different drivers, too!) I found one which appears to work - the Modem Diagnostics area seems to report back meaningful information and there isn't a cloud of smoke anywhere.

Now that I've got Windows and Office on there, and all drivers, I can make a start on copying the work back over. Hurrah!

Domaaaaaiins...

We're in the process of moving a domain over to our webserver for some unknown reason (another site? Oh pleasepleaseplease!), and it appears Demon Internet have cut off access to the FTP server for this account just because we faxed them asking them to update the WHOIS on the domain. Go figure.

So I whipped out my (easy, ladies!) credit card and applied to transfer it over to my 123-Reg account (and from there I can move it over for free to the agent for this company), got the OpenSRS transfer thingy and confirmed that it was OK to move. Hopefully all this will be done by Tuesday AM (Monday is a Bank Holiday, see) and we can get the new email accounts sorted out. UN-fortunately, I didn't find out about the FTP problem until something like 16:20... on a Friday afternoon. Crap.

Nobody is going to want to look into this kind of problem just before the weekend, but I live in hope. I've done my bit, at least.
